Curious about turning your photographs into vibrant RISO prints? This 4 hour, hands-on workshop is an introduction to creating duotone photographic prints using a RISO MZ. Together, we’ll explore how two ink colors can transform an image. You will learn the fundamentals of preparing photographs for a RISO MZ, creating color separations, adjusting tonal values, and experimenting with ink combinations. We’ll cover the essentials of RISO pre-press, including design, layout, paper selection, and ink choices and students will observe how to send files digitally, create masters, register prints, handle paper, and troubleshoot common printer error codes. No experience is necessary.
This workshop is designed for beginners as well as artists, designers, photographers, and printmakers interested in learning the fundamentals of photographic RISO printing.
Participants will leave with a small edition of their own duotone risograph prints.
What to Bring
- Laptop
- Download Specrolite to your computer (unfortunately an iPad will not work with this free software)
- 1-3 Images (.jpg or .pdf please)

Cowpoke Press is the Freelance art, prints, and publications brand by Christina Martin. Christina Martin is a Mexican American, queer interdisciplinary artist and printmaker based in Portland, Oregon. Their practice centers on printmaking, and ceramics, combining photography, and publications to explore identity, nostalgia, and material. Christina received an MFA in print media from PNCA in 2022, and has been working at nůn since 2023. You can find Christina under Cowpoke Press at many zine and art fairs.
