Discover the art of bookbinding with an introductory workshop guided by Cowpoke Press/Christina Martin.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn several, simple binding methods that can easily be recreated at home such as: magic zines, a saddle stitch (staple-bound) booklet, and a simple perfect-bound book while discussing the strengths and best uses for each binding style.
Participants will be introduced to equipment available at nůn studios, including the wire binder, coil binder, paper folder, and other bookmaking tools that can help elevate your publications. Whether you’re interested in making zines, artist books, sketchbooks, or small editions, this workshop provides an accessible introduction to the fundamentals of bookbinding. Participants will leave with several bound examples, the skills to continue binding at home, and a better understanding of the resources available at nůn studios.
Cowpoke Press is the Freelance art, prints, and publications brand by Christina Martin. Christina Martin is a Mexican American, queer interdisciplinary artist and printmaker based in Portland, Oregon. Their practice centers on printmaking, and ceramics, combining photography, and publications to explore identity, nostalgia, and material. Christina received an MFA in print media from PNCA in 2022, and has been working at nůn since 2023. You can find Christina under Cowpoke Press at many zine and art fairs.
